Next-Gen Consoles At E3 2012?

Microsoft and Sony are rumoured to reveal their new line of consoles at E3 2012. UK games magazine MCV has reported that anonymous but reliable sources have stated that both of the industry’s will have a new-console presence at the show. “Obviously we can’t reveal our sources,” says MCV’s Online Editor, Ben Parfitt, “But you have my personal word on this - the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level.” The news comes as an apparent move to waylay some of the attention from Nintendo, who are set to showcase their upcoming Wii U console at the show.

Shenmue 3 Is A ‘Possibility’

French fansite ShenmueMaster.fr have managed to score an exclusive interview with series director Yu Suzuki, who hints at the possibility of a Shenmue sequel. Suzuki mentions that the story for a Shenmue 3 has been written, and suggests that his studio YsNet may acquire the rights to the series from Sega in the future. Nothing concrete at this stage, but nothing ruled out either. Stay tuned.

Silent Hill Returns To It Roots

The long-suffering Silent Hill series is set to return to its survival-horror roots, according to producer Devin Shatsky. In an interview on Playstation’s Blog, Shatsky claims that Downpour will be much less combat-oriented than its predecessor Homecoming, which was met with disapproval by fans; instead, Downpour will incorporate a very limiting weapons system that will keep players on their toes, and will be most similarly themed to fan favourite Silent Hill 2. Shatsky also states that enemies from previous games will not be “shoehorned in”, and that Downpour will be its own unique chapter in the Silent Hill story. South Park First Screenshots

Screenshots for the upcoming South Park game have recently been released. The upcoming RPG in development by Obsidian Games is being personally overseen by series creators Matt Stone & Trey Parker, and from the screenshots we can see that the game is keeping very much in line with the show’s visual style. No definitive word on how the game will actually play yet, but rumours about that it will be a turn-based RPG à la Final Fantasy. Oh, and you get to fight Hippies and Ginger Kids. Sweeeet!

The GoDaddy exodus continues as MLG transfer their entire network of over 100 domains from the hosting service over the issue of SOPA support. MLG’s website states that they have transferred their network to alternative anti-SOPA host Namecheap, and that “MLG is firmly against both the specifics of SOPA and the philosophy behind the bill.”, urging visitors to the site to read up on SOPA and spread awareness.

More Persona 4 Merchandise Coming This Year

The ever-growing Persona 4 is set to receive its own line of One Coin collectible figurines. The collection, officially announced back in August, will come in a pack of 10 - so far the main character (Yu), Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Rise, Kanji, Naoto and Adachi have all been announced, with two secret figures due to be kept until release (Teddie? Dojima? Who knows…). No word so far on when we might expect them to become available, though.

Persona 4’s merchandise line has boomed since its inception as an anime series. Our personal favourites here at InGamer are the Izanagi figure from MegaHouse (6,320 JPY/~$82 USD) and the Teddie (Kuma) & TV Twin Pack from Phat Company (1,680 JPY/~$22 USD). Get ‘em while you can, because they’re sure to sell out fast!

Consumers Will Not Be Affected By #OpSony, Says Anonymous

The online activist group Anonymous has stated that its planned attacks on Sony will not affect regular consumers and PSN users. The group - who announced that they intend to “destroy” Sony for supporting the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and thus “siding with destroying our lovely home (The Internet)” - have said that the announced attacks will target Sony executives/employees and websites. This will most likely be done through “doxing” (obtainment and distribution of personal information) and defacement.

The announcement comes after concerns that a repeat of the Sony hacking scandal of last year was imminent, in which thousands of Sony customers’ personal information was compromised and the Playstation Network was shut down for a number of weeks to deal with the incident.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention Site Goes Live

Nippon Ichi have launched the English version of the Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention website. The seminal Japanese RPG which was released on PS3 in 2008 is receiving a port to Playstation Vita, boasting an impressive array of features: all original Disgaea 3 content and downloadable content from Playstation Network, plus brand new characters, scenarios and full Vita compatibility.

Absence of Detention is expected to arrive in North America and Europe in Q1 2012.

A new Persona 4: The Golden wallpaper has recently been added to the official website. The game is due to be released in Japan autumn/winter this year is yet to be announced as a release in other regions.

Meanwhile in development by Arc Systems is the fighting game, Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena, which is believed to be a sequel based on the direction of the plot of Persona 4 is also due to be released some time in 2012.
